Balfour Beatty takes additional space and extends lease at Westway

International infrastructure group Balfour Beatty has sign-up for an additional 27,000 sq ft of industrial space at Westway Park..
 
The follows on from the Balfour Beatty’s initial requirement which was agreed back in autumn 2015. The group’s total space at Units L1/L2 is now 60,000 sq ft on an extended lease, at an annual rental of £340,000.
 
Balfour Beatty is using the Westway space to service a £34m nuclear contract at Hunterston A in North Ayrshire. The contract awarded by Magnox involves Balfour Beatty being responsible for delivering the final stage of the encapsulation process and construction of the solid intermediate level waste encapsulation plant, as part of the decommissioning of the former nuclear power plant near Largs. The  twin reactor site was Scotland’s first civil nuclear generating station and at the time of opening in 1964 was the largest in operation in the world.
 
Hugh Canham, asset manager of Moorfield Group said: “It is always good news to see an existing occupier upsize and extend terms at Westway. We were able to offer Balfour Beatty the quality of space and flexibility they were seeking to service the Hunterston contract.”
 
Andrew Armstrong of joint agent JLL added: “Westway is providing the perfect location for Balfour Beatty. As well as the quality industrial space, the park is close to Glasgow Airport and within easy travelling distance of Hunterston.”
