Robot Wars, the hit BBC2 show which was aired to rave reviews is to continue filming at Westway in Renfrewshire for a further three years.
Mentorn Media has just agreed extended terms on Unit G2 at the park, which extends to 70,000 sq ft .
BBC2 commissioned Mentorn Media, the producers of Question Time, to organise the relaunch of the robot battles, which sees teams go head-to-head with each other with radio-controlled fighting machines.
Hosted by Dara O’Briain and Angela Scanlon, the show features a new exciting structure with more robots, more battles and more science than ever before. It also includes a raft of technological advances, with viewers being able to get even closer to the action, with state-of-the-art cameras capturing every crushing, sawing and scorching moment in astonishing detail.
Hugh Canham, Asset Manager of Moorfield Group said: “Westway was able to meet all of Mentorn’s site and connectivity requirements, by offering a central location, within easy reach of Glasgow city centre and close to Glasgow International Airport.
“Security was also of paramount importance, with Westway being able to provide a totally enclosed location with a 24-hour manned gatehouse, along with sophisticated computer-aided barrier entry/exit systems, CCTV monitoring and mobile on-site patrols.”
Andrew Armstrong from joint agent JLL added: “The unit was of the scale required and the overhead crane proved to be crucial to facilitate the complicated filming techniques required to capture every angle of the robot battles during the series.”
Westway Park joint agents are JLL and GVA James Barr, who advised Moorfield Group.
