Suzanne Birney, a 20-year-old engineer, who works for Doosan Babcock at Westway Park has been named Scotland’s Modern Apprentice of the Year.
Suzanne also won the Level 3 Apprentice of the Year category at Scotland’s Modern Apprenticeship Awards in Edinburgh on Wednesday 5 November.
Design and draughting apprentice Suzanne was delighted to receive both awards and said: “I feel surprised and totally shocked as well as ecstatic. It is a real honour but it is not just for me, it is for the whole team at Doosan.”
Erskine-based Suzanne is part of a group of young workers that is helping the company build its workforce of the future at Westway.
Presenting Suzanne with the Apprentice of the Year award, Cabinet Secretary for Training, Youth and Women’s Employment Angela Constance said: “Congratulations to all of the winners who have again demonstrated diversity and excellence in Scotland’s flagship training programme. I wish everyone well in their future careers and hope that other budding MAs can learn a lot from their experiences.”
SDS Chief Executive Damien Yeates said: “Congratulations to Suzanne and the other finalists. It is fantastic to be able to recognise their achievements and the positive example they are setting to others. It is an excellent opportunity to acknowledge their efforts and highlight the benefits of the Modern Apprenticeship Programme to both individuals and employers.”
